8 BALL NEWS (2004)

New Years Eve 2004 - Kingswood Tavern, Nuneaton

The Kingswood Tavern was sold out! It was hot, steamy and the ideal venue for 8 Ball Joe's ride into 2005! And ride they did! From the first number to the last they roared into the New Year like a dragster with two accelerators and no brakes!! Playing extended sets (over three hours in total) the 8 Ball Boys provided the perfect beat for the New Year revelry and full on fornication. The dance floor rocked & heaved with female flesh and like their cups, was overflowing from start to finish. Chico Ricardo Fernandez, blood freshly changed, put mistletoe abuse and a nasty rash behind him and together with a half naked Bone Skeletana (sorry ladies, waist up!) kicked out the New Year Jams as Salami Joe, a man of few words, once again let his fingers do the talking. You know what I’m talking about!!! The result was rock'n'roll mayhem ..........Perfecto!

Saturday 18th December - The Dixie Inn, Market Bosworth, Leicesetershire

The crypt deep below the bowels of the Dixie Inn provided an eerie venue for this private party. More often used for mediaeval banquets than the worship of Rock, it was a perfect setting for the passion of Chico! The audience proved to be very nice and well mannered people, little did they know they were about to embark on a voyage Rock and Roll damnation. As the mulled wine kicked in the 8 Ball Boys rocked past the midnight hour transforming their subterranean surroundings into a melting pot of bodily fluids and hot thong action!
Thanks for the invitation folks!

Friday 17th December - The Fir Tree, New Arley, Coventry

After being left last week in a state of undress and begging for more, Wilf brought the Boys back to the Fir Tree for a second helping. The  band tore into a heavily modified 1st set in preparation for their extended show at The Kingswood on New Years Eve. As the 2nd set opened with a no-holds barred version of ‘American Idiot’ the numbers had began to swell. It was great to see many new faces stunned as ‘Salami’ Joe fingered his way through many a tasty lick. As more items of damp ladies undergarments rained down in appreciation the boys bade farewell for another year. Thanks to Wilf, Ian, Tom, Chris, Kelly, Karen and everyone else for their continued support. Have a Rocking Christmas and New Year. See you on the 10th January!!

Friday 10th December - The Fir Tree, New Arley, Coventry

As the boys took to the stand at 9.30pm, the Fir tree was heaving. Wall to wall cleavage!! Part of the original 8 Ball Crew made the arduous journey from Atherstone & Baddesley, good to see some old faces again plus a good section from Nuneaton made the trip. Hayley did her duty with the 8 Ball camera as the Boys rocked out in their own inimitable style. The band commented after the show that this was definitely the best gig they had played at the Fir Tree and Wilf the gaffer must have agreed as he booked them again for the following Friday (17th December). Finally on a more serious matter, would the owner of a 34B, black brassiere from Next launched at the band in a frenzied attack please come backstage next week for a personal re-fitting. Thank You!

Sunday 28th November 2004 - The Nags Head, Nuneaton

Sunday afternoons at The Nags have become a firm favourite with both 8 Ball Joe and music lovers in the area. Just before the band were due to go on the room was looking a bit sparse. As the boys took to the stage any worries of a poor turnout were proved premature. The 8 Ball throttle was opened and the Joe performed at full bore. By the end of the first set there wasn’t a dry thong in the room. Set two was ignited with a roaring rendition of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ and later on ‘Paint it Black’ by the Stones was premiered. The Nags was left steaming and hungry for more. Thank the Lord for Sunday afternoons!! Thanks to all our supporters at The Nags over the last year not forgetting Lewis, Marky G, Janie, Ant, Jackie, Magda and all those who we don't know by name but definitely do by sight. See you  on January 22nd.

Wednesday 24th November 2004

The Boys were in the Rehearsal Studio this evening in an attempt to widen their already vast repertoire!! 'American Idiot' by Green Day & the Rolling Stones classic 'Paint it Black' were whipped into shape after a few technical difficulties (the cd refusing to play in the Studio's player). Huddled around Joes' Cadillac, the band froze in the November smog musing over the finer points of Charlie Watts' paradiddles. The new tunes will be premiered at The Nags Head this Sunday afternoon.

Saturday 13th November 2004 - The Fillongley Club, Fillongley, Coventry

Tonight's gig was to give local star Jamie a great send off as he is leaving the area. As he strolled in at 9pm, the band struck up with his favourite track 'Mustang Sally'. It seemed as though the whole village had turned out for this occasion and as ever 8 Ball Joe rose to the occasion. After a short break for 'Tiffin', the band and a determined bunch of dancers sweated and strutted until midnight. Big Bill Heritage, the organiser of many gigs in Fillongley including the annual Leukaemia Research Charity Event in July, nearly tore himself away from the bar shouting for a second rendition of 'Mustang' when he was finally wooed back to the bar by an empty pint glass!! Only joking...Cheers Bill!!

Friday 12th November 2004 - The Bucksford, Nuneaton

A perfect shape and very intimate, Jackie the Landlady couldn't resist the temptation to let the 8 Ball Boys into her domain. Tom was there again with his posse and the Rugby chapter of the 8 Ball crew came along in force. The sound and atmosphere here is second to none and it didn't take long for the room to get buzzing. The Boys will be back on February 12th 2005. Be afraid.....Be very afraid!!

Friday 5th November 2004 - The Coundon, Coventry

A last minute booking bought the Boys back to Coventry after just 3 weeks. A smaller but appreciative crowd were injected with a high dose of 8 Ball. Tom brought along his posse and livened things up like a Jumping Jack in an old folk’s home. See you all next year!

Saturday 30th October 2004 - The Blacksmith’s Arms, Barwell, Leicester

What can we say……it was hot, sweaty, sticky, sexy and very welcoming….and that was just Jo, the Blacksmith’s landlady!!! Great place for a gig. The arrival of a bevy of beauties decked out in all the gear (Halloween of course!) paved the way for a no holds barred show of booze fuelled busty, leggy, stiletto stamping rock & roll depravity. Joe, Chico & Bone almost collectively blew a major blood vessel when one of the brazen pack showed the boys the proper way to do the splits (see the Gallery). Chico could hardly hold his Bass (let alone turn his camera on!!). A request for ‘Teenage Kicks’ to be dedicated to the newly departed John Peel blew everyone away and from then on it was ‘heads down no nonsense’ boogying ‘til the witching hour. Great to see Steve & Rob there. See you all Next Year!

Saturday 23rd October 2004 - The Nags Head, Nuneaton

Voted the second best live music pub in the U.K. earlier this year, 8 Ball Joe always aim to make it the first. Tonight was no exception. Despite torrential rain outside, a large and vocal crowd were soaking up the atmosphere of this newly refurbished venue. ‘Pumping up the Stereo’ was Grandmaster DJ & sound engineer Julian Harkins (who ‘By the Way’ doubles as the landlord). The new stage, lighting rig and large house PA  ensured that the band looked and sounded on top form yet again. Hot, steamy and in your face (and that was just the contents of the bands big trousers!), 8 Ball Joe relentlessly delivered the goods. A halt in proceedings led to the on stage proposal and acceptance of marriage between Martin & Vikki then it was back to business as the band played through ‘til midnight. Thanks to all old and new, not forgetting Jools, Laura, Ash, Paul, Mark, Ant, Janie, Relay & Nick from Rebellious (& their chicks), Inoffensive (including the singers wild sister!!) and everyone else  for your great support, see you on November 28th.

Saturday 16th October 2004 – Kingswood Tavern, Nuneaton

Crip & Jools at The Kingswood have turned this pub in the Stockingford area of Nuneaton into one of the top venues in the Midlands. It seemed quieter than usual at 9 o’clock after the band sound checked with ZZ Tops Gimme All Your Lovin’. How things can change in the course of half an hour. As soon as the band ‘cracked one off’ the room began to fill and by midnight the floor was strewn with bodies and items of sweaty clothing. The band could have carried on but Chico had an attack of the ‘Delhi Belli’ and had to make a dash for the Gents. He quipped afterwards “It’s the first time I’ve been pooed off stage!!”  8 Ball Joe next play The Kingswood on New Years Eve. Get your tickets from the venue early as they are in high demand.

Friday 15th October 2004 – The Coundon, Coventry

What a gig! Arriving in torrential rain after a few minor mishaps on the way, the band were not expecting great things. The arrival of Tom & his posse sparked things into action. From the very start the place was jumping and the dance floor was put to great use. Great Pub! Great Sound & the Gaffer Tony is a diamond! On a technical note, Chico’s new Seymour Duncan Antiquity Bass pick-ups, (hastily put on just prior to the gig), improved his sound no-end. Well recommended!

Saturday 9th October 2004 – The LMRCA Club, Rugby

Clubs are not the bands usual haunt but this particular venue has a leaning towards watching good live entertainment. 8 Ball Joes plan of attack was to play three short sets & pace themselves. It seemed to work. After overcoming the shock of hearing a band that plays at a volume over 2! the audience were solely tempted to take to the floor and by the end of the night were thankfully wooed. Thanks to Geoff Antill for his top hospitality.

Friday 8th October 2004 – The White Lion, Bulkington

8 Ball Joe Love this place. The Landlord & Landlady bend over backwards to make the bands welcome ensuring  Friday & Saturday nights are great nights for a gig. Tonight was no exception.  Ash took up his spot in the corner. Tom (the Tasmanian Devil) and his chapter of the 8 Ball crew rode in. The band kicked off & a group of 8 Ball Go-Go dancers (you know who you are) hit the floor turning the Lion into a hot, sweaty, Rock ’n’ Roll Den. See you next year!!
